Colleges have different timetables for when they accept students. Your deadline for applying to a particular college is determined by its timetable and the admissions option you choose.
Competitive colleges with limited space usually have very strict deadlines for applications. Some colleges have priority deadlines—students who apply by the deadline may have a better chance of being accepted. Open-admissions colleges usually accept applications until the start of each term. They may, however, have deadlines for applying to certain programs.
Complete and send your applications as early as possible. At many colleges, applying early may enable you to be accepted earlier. You might also move to the head of the line for campus housing, financial aid, and enrolling in classes.
Rolling Admissions
Some colleges make their admissions decisions as they receive applications instead of waiting until the final deadline. If you are a qualified candidate, you have a better chance of being admitted if you apply early, before the available spaces are filled.
Quinnipiac University in Connecticut considers applications on a rolling admissions basis. Students generally have until February 1 to submit their applications for fall. But once a program is filled, no more students are accepted into that program. For example, if you want to enter the physical therapy program, you should submit your application well before February 1.
PS: Check with the college’s Web site, catalog, or the admissions office to confirm application deadlines.
