recommendation letter 300x300 Recommendations for College AdmissionRecommendations are also called evaluations and reviews. Many colleges provide special forms for recommendations. Many colleges want to know what others think about you. Therefore, you may need to provide recommendations from others.

Colleges usually want recommendations to come from one or two of your high school teachers or counselors. You may be able to provide additional recommendations, perhaps from your minister, employer, or someone else who has known you for a while.

People writing recommendations are asked about more than just your proven ability. They are asked about your maturity, character, creativity, leadership, and potential for personal growth.

They are asked to compare your abilities and potential to that of others the reviewer has known. Many recommendations, though not all, are confidential. In these cases, you will not know what has been written unless the person shares it with you.

Carefully follow the college’s guidelines. Request recommendations early to give those writing them plenty of time. Be sure that they know and can meet your deadlines. Provide stamped and addressed envelopes, if needed. And always thank them for their time and effort.
